Week 18

I went ahead and made 4 loves of home made bread on Monday afternoon and had to remake a new sour dough starter.
This is what I do.

Sour Dough Starter

4 cup plastic container starter needs to be able to expand.
Put in 1 cup of warm water, 1 teaspoon of yeast,, 1 teaspoon sugar, (I used a bit of molasses, you can use honey to,) let sit a few minutes, add 1 cup flour, stir, doesn’t have to have all lumps gone at all.
Sit in warm place about 18 hours to 24 hours then stir down add 1/2 cup flour stir add 1 cup warm water and a dash of sugar, let sit till next day, stick in fridge.
You won’t have to add any more sugar to this; it was just to help it grow.
Take out 1 cup of starter for making a couple loaves of bread, and add back in 1 cup flour and 1 cup water to your starter and let set out a few hours then put back in fridge
Use your starter like you would your yeast, look at some sour dough bread recipes on the
Internet to see things you would like to make with it.
It’s good to feed your starter about once a week if you can.
I have gone 2 weeks and it was fine in the fridge.

Spiritual:

We have been counseled to have Food Storage by our leaders.

This can give us Temporal peace and help with our spiritual being in times of trouble. (From, Home Storage: Build on the Basics on lds.org.)

A year’s supply of food storage is beneficial in several ways:

It provides peace of mind as we obey the counsel to store.

It helps ensure survival in case of personal or natural disaster.

It strengthens skills in preparing and using basic foods.

Once you have stored the basic food items, you need to regularly include them in your daily meals
