There Be Snow! Work & Help. And Timberrrrrrrrr

Wood splitting and more wood splitting last Wednesday and Thursday. First chance dh has gotten to start.

He and I also managed to get two more posts in for the barn lean-to. So eight in and two to go.

Saturday the 28th. Of course it was raining and kind of miserable outside. A son came up to help jack hammer a hole into the rock for one of the last post holes that will go in up at the barn. he even cleaned it up and said he would take it back to the Rental place before work on Monday.

Then he spent around 4 1/2 hours splitting wood for us. Dh had been running a fever and son said he would take over and he did.

Then Sunday came along. We got up to 2-3 inches of snow and 30 deg. F. We also got to do face time and take with our daughter in Afghanistan, that was very nice.

At 10:40 the house shook, and a big kaboom as at least half of our mountain maple tree fell on the west side of the house.

Dh and son made sure the propane tank was protected.

Same son cam back up and helped so we could use our back door and find out what damage we had on the roof. We hated to have to do it on Sunday but no help for it at all. So out came the chain saw.

Our comes the winch from son's Jeep to hook on the biggest limb and pull it off the roof of the house..

Then down it all came. They got the branches pulled off the roof and found only two holes, one over the bathroom and one over the back porch. Dh says both easy fixes thank goodness.

At the front of the house the other big branch was looking so good so they took it down as well.

Headed home.

Behind But Some Progress

Because of dh's heath problems this year it has put us two months behind what has needed to be done before winter snows hit us. But we're really trying.

He has finished his radiation treatments as of last week and we will know in a month if they helped.

The kitchen has new colors and only been in the works for 2 or so years, the paint needed a whole lot of stirring lol. Sure makes our small kitchen brighter.

The white on the outside is pretty well finished except for a bit here and there, the trim still needs repainted.

This past week doing sprinkles and rain and temperatures in the 50's it was time to get working on the lean-to in front of the barn.
The neighbor got his backhoe working and came over to help level the ground better as it is up hill from the east side of the barn to the west. Plus more rock then you can shake a stick at. Dh took the rock and dirt away as it was dug.

Now the other hand work has begone. These first two posts were the easiest but still have to break up the rock with a pry bar. The further west he goes the more rock breaking involved. He says 98 percent rock 2 percent dirt.
